What the Heck is Polymer Clay?
Polymer clay is an increasingly popular medium for many crafters, including sculptors and jewelry makers. It’s a non-toxic synthetic clay with a PVC base, giving it strong and flexible qualities, while still feeling soft-to-the-touch. It’s important to me to be able to offer really high quality earrings, and I want people to feel like they can really use them every day without tarnishing, chips or cracks. Polymer clay has been the best material for this.
Did you know not all clays are created equally? Different polymer clays serve different purposes and therefore some are better intended for jewelry making than others. When cured properly, good quality polymer clay will bend and flex, but still go back to its original shape. I don’t advise that you bend your earrings, but rest assured if you happen to drop one on the floor, it won’t shatter. This is why so many people are gravitating to buying and wearing this amazing material!
